GERMANTOWN FRIENDS SCHOOL MASTER PLAN
Founded in 1845, Germantown Friends School is a Quaker independent day school for students in grade K-12 located in the historic neighborhood of Germantown. Over the years the growing school enrollment demanded new development before a vision for a broader campus plan could ensue. The school has plans to re-envision the campus to meets its strong values, standard of efficiency, and academic stature.
Studio | Bryan Hanes, with Leslie Gill, was tasked to complete a comprehensive site assessment in order to advance plans towards a strategic and informed master plan. The report consisted of a thorough evaluation of the current landscape utilization. This included a review of vehicular and pedestrian traffic flow and suitability of current land use and documentation of physical condition. Through careful observation, interviews with Germantown Friends faculty and staff, collaboration with team members, and understanding of ecological, social, and historical factors, a comprehensive assessment of the buildings and grounds is serving as a basis for the decision-making for the on-going master plan study.
